Now that the busy schedule of the end of October is over, I can finally get more website updates in! My three high school classes have recently finished up two large projects. My 2 Intro to Art classes have finished a large project - Famous Artist Posters. They had free choice on their artist, and did lots of research to complete their poster to fit all the rubric requirements. The final results currently decorate my room well! Click on the images below to enlarge them. The Mixed Media class of juniors have now ALL finished their Snapchat Selfie Grid Enlargements.
Check out more results below. Click to enlarge.

My 3rd hour Mixed Media class are completing a grid enlargement assignment.
To make it a little more fun, their original image had to be a selfie using a filter from SnapChat! The results are coming in slowly, and you can't help but laugh at them! Click on the image to enlarge. Our Mixed Media class is almost done with their group projects based on the artist Chuck Close.
Students used the grid enlargement process and oil pastel to complete this large-scale drawing. Here are some works in progress! Click on the image to enlarge it. I am enjoying how the Self-Portraits are coming along so much that I had to post some works in progress.
After the students are finished painting (like the example on the top left), the last and final step is to outline the facial details in black sharpie marker to make them stand out. I love this project!! Currently the Drawing/Painting class is creating self-portraits based on the unique artist Chuck Close. Chuck Close is famous for his wonderful portraits with a unique Grid Enlargement process used to create them after he was paralyzed in 1988. The projects should be completed by the end of the week. The first images below are examples I showed the class to get an idea of the final look of the project. Below that are works in progress from class today. Projects should be completed by the end of this week or early next week.
Here are some current updates for my 3 high school classes. 1st Hour - Intro to Art Students recently finished up a Mixed Media Self-Portrait Project. After that, they started a group project using the Grid Enlargement process. The final result? A face cut-out poster to be display for interaction at the Spring Art Show. Next week, they will do their first painting assignment! 2nd Hour - Painting Painting students are currently focusing on Monochromatic color schemes. They practiced one color with various neutrals, like white, black, and grey. The first painting was specific to my assignment, and the second one is more independent. This leaves room for them to paint what they desire. 4th Hour Drawing The first assignment for the Drawing class was a Unity Ribbons shading exercise using ebony pencils, and oil pastel. Now, they are starting a GIANT grid enlargement of their choice! Check out some photos below. My Drawing class is also completing the Grid Enlargement process that my Painting class is. They had to find an image to blow up, and have two choices of how to finish it. One is a simple colored pencil shaded drawing. Great, but not near as creative as the second option - Cassette Tape Art. I was inspired by one of last year's seniors to do this project. I am excited to see some of the completed artworks. Here are two samples:
My amazing 2nd hour students are working on a grid enlargement project. They were required to choose a famous painting and recreate it to their best ability. So far, they are amazing me with the progress. Check out the pictures below! After they come these lovely group projects, they will be moving on to a Watercolor Self-Portrait using a style that will look similar to the image to the left. This week in 1st hour we worked on a grid enlargement of two famous paintings, Starry Night and Sunflowers by Vincent Van Gogh. Each student had their own section of the paintings they had to recreate in their own style. After finishing the Grid Enlargements, we finished up our presenations on Letter Photography. We also made inchies!! Inchies are 2 x 2 inch wooden squares that we put our name on and decorated how we wanted to. Miss Westphal is taking our inchies to cover the top of a table, our art is just that fantastic! :D This week we finally put together our whole Grid Inlargement of American Gothic (the origanal artist is Grant wood.) Also this week we started to do our Cut-Out Posters project, we did this by looking up a famous peice of artwork and redrawing it on a big sheet of paper. Then we had to cut out the face of the peice of artwork so someone can place your head through the hole. To end our week we had to do an Inchies assignment which are, designing a little peice of wood how ever you would like but it has to have your name on it. |
